If you are looking for tips to solve vaginismus you found the perfect post! Let me explain more about this condition and let’s start working on your pelvic floor muscles. Vaginismus is a sexual dysfunction that involves the involuntary contraction of the walls of the vagina, making penetration impossible.  If you think you may suffer from this condition and you don’t know how to start solving it I have good news for you:

It’s easier to solve vaginismus than you think.

With information and the proper plan, YOU WILL FORGET ABOUT THIS FOREVER. There are different tips to solve vaginismus online that are not supported by scientifical evidence. Please, put your safety first and find medical advice before starting any “treatment”. Online generalized advice does not replace medical advice. For example, you may find a lot of lubricants to deal with vaginismus that contains substances that increase the symptoms.

1. Find the proper medical help.

First of all;  talk about this with your trusted practitioner: if you feel that your doctor does not understand you or does not pay attention to this FIND ANOTHER ONE. You are entitled to ask for as many opinions as needed, to be treated with respect and patience and to be listened to.  If your doctor doesn’t see any underlying condition as endometriosis or an infection, the muscles of your pelvic floor may have the solution to your problem. Even if you suspect that the origin of your vaginismus is psychological get checked just in case.

This is the most important of the tips to solve vaginismus, BE SURE OF NOT HAVING ANY UNDERLYING CONDITION.

2. Identify the cause of vaginismus to get the solution.

The second step is to recognize the origin of the problem. If your doctor doesn’t see a physical cause, the root cause could be muscle tension. Muscle tension appears due to the tendency to “clinch” down there. Unfortunately, many women react in this way after suffering a traumatic experience. If this is your case you will need psychological help to deal with the trauma. Some women tighten their musculature as a coping mechanism to deal with anxiety. In this case, you’ll need to learn how to manage your stress in different ways to not keep tensing up the muscles. If you suffer from bruxism you are very likely to have the same problem in your pelvic muscles and develop vaginismus.

So, is your muscular tension there because you have a natural tendency to tense up? Is the muscular tension there because of a traumatic experience? What are you doing when you feel the muscles tensing up?

3. Pelvic floor physiotherapy will help vaginismus.

Physiotherapy will help you to understand how to contract the muscles and also how to relax them. As with any other muscle that tenses up, the pelvic floor will be very benefited from manual therapy and stretching. Keep in mind that you can also massage this area on your own. You might not feel like being touched there by anyone, and this is fine, a specialist in pelvic floor rehab can also help you to deal with this without making you feel uncomfortable or shy and always in a PAINLESS way. Nothing to be scared of! Vaginismus is a treatable condition and you will beat it

4. Choose a quality treatment.

Dilators are not always the solution: you can find tons of websites selling devices to dilate your vagina. Yes, it is scary! This tool can be really helpful for some patients of vaginismus and dyspareunia, but there’s no point in buying these sets if you are not able to touch yourself or if you are not able to relax the muscles. Trying to insert anything inside your body without being comfortable about it or while feeling pain will only increase the tension in the area.

5. Teamwork is key for vaginismus resolution.

Remember to combine all your tools: vaginismus needs a physical approach and a psychological one. For the physical part, your doctor will check if there is any infection or other conditions. The physiotherapist will help you to deal with the muscles of the pelvis, and the breathing and learn how to control your pelvic floor. Psychologically you may need to learn anxiety management, heal past traumas or be helped by a sexologist. These different approaches need to be combined with each other!

There is no magic formula to solve this problem, every woman is different and you deserve proper attention and individualized care. Be suspicious about miracle treatments, this condition requires teamwork, self-work and qualified professionals.
